Miao Guo-hua, DuPont's biofuel general manger for the Asia-Pacific, said the company had three biofuel strategies. They are discovering new technologies to make advanced biofuels like bibutanol, developing technologies to convert agricultural feedstock and energy crops into biofuel and improving the yield of grain-ethanol production by increasing the yield per acre of energy crops.
DuPont said biobutanol addressed market demand for fuels that could be produced from domestic renewable resources in high volumes and at reasonable cost, could be used in existing vehicles using existing infrastructure, offered good value to consumers and met the evolving demands of vehicles.
The move is the company's attempt to tackle the global need for alternative and more sustainable fuels.
Biobutanol is expected to be
of interest to countries that import a significant amount of petroleum but have multiple crops that can be converted into biobutanol.
