Chanapat sentenced to suspened jail term for defaming Newin

The Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced a political activist, Chanapat na Nakhon known as "Te Moo Chin" to two-year suspension after convicting him of defaming former Thai Rak Thai Party executive Newin Chidchob.

Newin said in the suit that Chanapat gave press interview accusing him of granting Bt10 million to Somchai Bunchai, a leder of Saturday People against Dictatorship to rally against the military installed government and the Council for National Security.

The court sentenced Chanapat to six-month imprisonment after Chanapat gave court testimonies that he gave press interview by saying the particular statements but he denied that he intended to defame anyone.

The court commuted six-month imprisonment to two-year suspended jail term on the grounds that Chanapat has never committed offences before.
