B5 biodiesel use soars by 600%

The Energy Ministry will continue promoting B5 biodiesel, buoyed by a 600-per-cent annualised increase in consumption.



Energy permanent secre-tary Pornchai Rujiprapha said B5 would be promoted to replace B2 in the next three years.

The ministry will also promote B10. However, more cooperation is sought for the production of additional palm oil to meet the higher demand for biodiesel.

According to the Energy Policy and Planning Office, B5 biodiesel consumption in June increased to 10.69 million litres per day, up 610 per cent year on year. - The Nation

Philips transfers PC monitor business

Royal Philips Electronics has reached an agreement to transfer its PC monitor business and IT displays to TPV Technology, the largest producer of PC monitors worldwide.

Under the brand-licensing agreement, TPV will assume responsibility for sourcing, distribution, marketing and sales of all Philips' IT displays activities worldwide.

Philips said the move was in line with its commitment to take decisive steps to improve the profitability levels of its television business, of which the IT displays unit forms a part. - The Nation

Bayer Thai to help Rayong students

Bayer Thai and the Office of the Vocational Education Commission have formed a partnership to provide educational support for students and personnel at Rayong Technical College, one of the major vocational institutions in the Eastern Seaboard, for three academic years from 2008 to 2010.

The partnership is aimed

to give students and personnel of Rayong Technical College the opportunity to enhance their skill development and work together with the Bayer team at its manufacturing site in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate.

Moreover, 10 scholarships worth Bt30,000 each were awarded to students entering a high vocational programme until their completion. - The Nation
