WHAT'S EXPECTED THIS WEEK

Graft panel seminar on state funds

The Assets Examination Committee today organises a final seminar before its term ends after a year and nine months of investigating corruption in the Thaksin Shinawatra administration.

The topic of the seminar is "State money belongs to the people" and it will be held at Thammasat University's Tha Prachan campus.

Ratchadaphisek land case begins

The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders tomorrow  will call both defendants and plaintiffs in the Ratchadaphisek land purchase case to give testimony. Former prime minister Thaksin and his wife Pojaman, the defendants in the case, will have to find a new team of lawyers to represent them since the previous team of three lawyers led by Pichit Chuenban was sentenced to six months in jail last Wednesday for contempt of court over an attempted bribery case.

Supreme Court set to issue rulings

The Supreme Court Criminal Division for Political Office Holders is expected to deliver rulings on two other cases either today, tomorrow or on Thursday:

The first questions whether the establishment of the Assets Examination Committee - under announcement No 30 of the Council for Democratic Reform and the extension of its term to June 2008 via an amendment to the announcement - violate the 2007 Constitution.

The other case regards whether Public Health Minister Chaiya Sasomsap should be disqualified from holding office after the National Counter Corruption Commission found that he failed to declare all his assets within the given deadline.
