Nipat nixed for Siam City Bank

Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee has prohibited Nipat Pukkanasut from becoming chairman of Siam City Bank's board.

Surapong said he told Nipat to refuse any offer from the selection committee.

It was reported that the Financial Institutions Development Fund, the bank's major shareholder, disagreed with Nipat's appointment, because it was concerned about his qualifications.

Lion products up

Lion (Thailand) will raise washing-powder and dishwashing-liquid prices 10 per cent and plans to ask for Commerce Ministry to increase prices for soap and shampoo products soon.

The company was granted Commerce Ministry approval to increase prices after bearing the burden of 30-40-per-cent higher production costs. It expects to increase revenue this year to Bt8.88 billion.
