Thaksin says he's ready to testify

Opposition contends there's no way ex-PM can distance himself from the Bt2-million court bribery case; police will find out where the cash came from

Ousted PM Thaksin Shina-watra insists he's innocent and has nothing to do with the Bt2-million bribery scandal that's seen three of his lawyers put behind bars for six months for contempt of court.

Personal spokesman Pong-thep Thepkanchana says Thaksin regrets the incident, and will testify if required.

"There's no benefit for Thaksin in doing this. To give money to an administrative officer doesn't benefit Thaksin. The officer is not a judge who can deliver a verdict in Thak-sin's case," Pongthep says.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court jailed Pichit Chuenban, Suphasri Srisawat and Thana Tansiri for six months for contempt of court. The three defendants are members of Thaksin and wife Pojaman's defence team. The couple will commence fighting corruption charges stemming from a controversial Ratchadaphisek land deal on Tuesday.

The three lawyers were found by the court to have given an official Bt2 million stashed in a snack bag. The money was said to have been handed over while a lawyer was arranging the Shinawatras' next court appearances following an overseas trip.

Supreme Court spokesman Saravuth Benjakul says the court has now made an official complaint of bribery against the three lawyers.

"Police will have to find out where the money came from," he says.

Pichit: If I did it I wouldn't complain

Pichit and Suphasri were taken immediately to prison on Wednesday. Thana, who is married to a cousin of Pojaman, was not in court because he was ill. He's now under police watch at Bumrung- rad Hospital, where he admitted himself. He is banned from leaving the country.

Pichit, a lawyer for 30 years, told relatives and friends who visited him yesterday morning he is depressed and cannot sleep.

A relative told reporters Pichit is wearing a prison uniform - light blue shirt and blue pants - and appears sad. His visitors were in tears, too.

"He says: 'It is not fair to me. If I really did it, I would not complain'," the relative reports.

Suphasri, who has been jailed in the Central Prison for Women, is reportedly sick from stress. She is being attended by a prison psychiatrist.

Democrat Party spokesman Ong-art Klampaiboon wants the government to ensure there's no attempt to interfere in the bribery investigation and prosecution.

"Thaksin can't deny involvement because the three work directly for him," Ong-art says.

The Royal Thai Police now has a serious job to do and to do the Thai 65 million population and the entire world a simple favour fo the real Justice to prevail,by investigating the source of the Two million baht{#2 million}equivalent to Sixty-Thousand Dollars, alledged to be a bribery attempt to buy Justice at the Highest Court{Supreme Court}by 3 Lawyers representing Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife over corruption and abuse of power charges, which he perpetuated while in office as Prime Minister of Thailand.Having said this, the 3 Lawyers have already started their 6months sentences in Prison over the issue as loyal & obedient messengers to their boss. Now,my question is whose money was that? Can they 3Lawyers in question afford to bribe with such amount of money? Are they so rich as to forfeit such amount?I was highly disturbed when the un-intelligent spokesman to the Controversial Thai billionaire,Pongthep Thepkanchana was talking to the press in defence of his boss over the issue that "To give money to administrative officer in the Supreme Court doesn't benefit his boss".So,it was quite obvious to me & other people of like minds, that Pongthep Thepkanchana indeed does not know his boss very well or probably he knows too much and does not want to admit all he knows in other not to lose whatever in monetary terms he is getting from serving as a mouth piece to a controversial figure like Thaksin Shinawatra, who is capable of doing anything imaginable and un-imaginable to evade real Justice in the Law Courts. However,it will only take a little while and patience for the Supreme Courts to dish out their judgements.Just a matter of time........

So when the music goes awry blame the conductor not the musicians. Same here when it got name connnected with Thaksin. it's him not the others. So the lawyers representing him got caught with 'snack box cash-gate', he is to blame, right? But do we stop and think the 3 lawyers may represent other clients and the money may be from them. Just take a second or two to think of that possiblity.

To call themselves lawyers is a slap in the face for the profession they serve. A more appropraite term would be the "Keystones Capers" or "The Gang That Could'nt Shoot Straight" (no, The Gang That Can't Bribe Straight). No matter how Taksin is going to deny he is gulity by association. 1) They are his personal lawyers 2) They were at the court to represent him and his wife Pojanan 3) The returned money was send back to a car owned by Taksin I don't know how Taksin can explain all this, but knowing him as a great spinner, he'll find a way to talk himself out of this crap. My friends are starting to see that Taksin is not he what he claims to be.
