Judges to rule on Bt2 million-pastry box case tomorrow

The Supreme Court will tomorrow issue a ruling over the incident that a court official of the Supreme Court's Criminal Division of Political Office Holder received a pastry box filled with the Bt2 million.

Supreme Court vice President Mongkol Tabtiang who heads a judge panel comprising Suprem Court judge Weerapol Tangsuana and Issaret Chairatcan will read the verdict today at 2 PM, a source said yesterday.

The source who is a Supreme Court judge said Pichit Chuenban, a lawyer of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Ratchadapisek land purchase gave court testimony on Thursday. Thana Tansri, another lawyer had also given his testimony to the court.

Seven court officials who involved in the incident gave court testimony on June 13.

The judges have examined what happened on June 10 at the Supreme's Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holder and who were involved and what offences were committed.

The source said if the judge panel ruled that anyone found guilty of violating court's authority in the incident, the convicts will be sentenced up to six-month imprisonment without the court having to file a complaint with police, the source said.

"This incident happened in the Supreme Court which is a high court. If the judge panel believes an offence of violating court's authority was committed and sentences the convicts to imprisonment without suspension of the sentence. The convicts cannot appeal the decision. If the convicts are lawyers, they can not work as a lawyer in any court again. The Law Society of Thailand will also have to take legal action against the lawyers,'' the source said.

The judges will also decide whether there were grounds that a crime of bribery was committed. "If there are grounds that anyone had intention and committed bribery, they will be taken criminal action for the offence,''

If that is the case, court representatives will file a complaint with police to take action against those involved.
