Hospital poised to expand

Wattanosoth Hospital, the cancer centre of the Bangkok Hospital Group, expects a 30-per-cent increase in patients and revenue of Bt740 million this year.

One-third of the 30,000 patients treated at the hospital last year were foreign.

Director Dr Surapong Lookhanumanjao said more than 120,000 cancer cases are detected in Thailand annually, so the hospital invested in the most advanced facilities.

The hospital's revenue was Bt380 million in 2006 and Bt530 million last year.

The Bangkok Hospital Group invested Bt1.5 billion in Wattanosoth Hospital three years ago.

It plans to open a hospital for bone diseases in Bangkok this year and one general hospital each in Hua Hin and Abu Dhabi next year.

About 40 per cent of its patients are from abroad, particularly the Middle East, Burma, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, China, South Korea, Japan, Europe and Africa.

The other 60 per cent are locals and expats, of whom Japanese make up the largest portion.
