Mrta to push for green line approval

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will push for Cabinet approval of the Green Line mass-transit project next month. It is preparing the terms of reference for the bidding, which is expected to be held this year.

Governor Prapat Chongsanguan said the Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning Office would submit the blueprint of the section of the rail line running from Mor Chit to Saphan Mai to the MRTA on June 25 for the drafting of the terms of reference. The construction plans will be forwarded to the MRTA board, the Transport Ministry and then the Cabinet.

"We can proceed with the

project as planned. We should be able to call for the bidding within 2008. The Finance Ministry is committed to finding the funding," Prapat said.

He said the construction cost should not exceed the original estimate of Bt30.77 billion, as the higher prices of oil and construction materials had already been factored in.

Another section of the Green Line will eventually link with the extended section of the Skytrain from Soi Bearing to Samut Prakan.
