300 advisers appointed

The Industry Ministry has appointed 300 advisers to analyse and enhance the business plans of small and medium-sized enterprises as a short-term measure to help them through the adverse economic conditions.

Industry Minister Suwit Khunkitti said smaller operators were attempting to cope with rising production costs, while they could not raise the prices of their products due to tough competition.

As the new monetary laws do not allow the central bank to provide any further soft loans, public agencies - including the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (Osmep), the Industrial Promotion Department and the SME Bank - will collaborate to financially support SMEs.

Meanwhile, Osmep and the Thai Women Small and MediumEnterprises Assoc- iation plan to strengthen new operators by using the Knowledge Management system.

Group adviser Khomsan Laosillapacharoen said they would focus on educating them on how to lift productivity, improve information technology and make better use of their staff.
