Pakistani newspaper joins ANN service

Arif Nizami, editor of The Nation, signed the agreement with ANN's editors in Bangkok over the weekend. "I am pleased to be joining ANN. We hope to make a great contribution with 'The Nation' being part of Pakistan's press dynamism," he said.

Isagani Yambot, chairman of ANN and publisher of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, welcomed the admission of The Nation, which is published from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. "The Nation's credibility as a quality newspaper and rigorous coverage of Pakistani affairs will add to a comprehensive coverage of ANN on Asia," he said.

ANN, now in its 10th year, is the world's most active newspaper alliance and a model of successful Asian cooperation. The other members are China Daily, Yomiuri Shimbun and Daily Yomiuri (Japan), The Island (Sri Lanka), The Korea Herald, The Straits Times (Singapore), The Nation (Thailand), Vietnam News, The Daily Star (Bangladesh), the Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Jakarta Post (Indonesia), The Star and Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia), The Kathmandu Post (Nepal), Vientiane Times (Laos), Rasmei Kampuchea (Cambodia) and Brunei Times.

ANN members exchange news and photos daily, operating a pan-Asia website www.asianewsnet.net . It provides a pan-Asian advertising platform. The alliance is involved in organising public conferences and is a publisher of AsiaNews, a weekly magazine which is carried in select airline members of the Star Alliance.
