Chevron off to Nakhon Si Thammarat

Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production plans to relocate its logistics centres from Sattahip and Songkhla to Nakhon Si Thammarat, to support its operations both in the Gulf of Thailand and in the South.

Public-relations manager Hatairattana Atichart told reporters in Nakhon Si Thammarat that the company considered the province geographically suitable to be its centre of operations.

Chevron operates more than 180 platforms in the Gulf of Thailand with a total average daily production of more than 144,000 barrels of oil and condensate and 1.6 billion gross cubic feet of gas (856 million net).

Hatairattana said the relocation would be carried out in three phases, starting with the construction of an office in Tha Sala district. Chevron will have to build the transportation base, for which the environmental impact assessment is under way. If approved, construction could start in 2010.

Nakhon Si Thammarat will also accommodate Chevron's air transportation base, from where helicopters will ferry staff to offshore platforms. The air base should start late next year at the soonest.
