PM's Office minister: a portfolio without credibility

Why does the media make such a big deal out of whether Jakrapob Penkair should resign or not? Ministers to the PM's Office are created for key politicians who are incapable of doing anything (Abhisit Vejjajiva and his cousin Suranan Vejjajiva should know.)

With due respect, you can walk out of your front door right now, grab the first person you run into, and make him Minister to the PM's Office, and the Cabinet and the country wouldn't even notice the change.

Young politicians lack

wisdom and respect

Re: "Eyeing city governor", June 4.

Out goes Jakrapob, in comes Nattakorn? My complaint is: can't we have some peace of mind for a while without these arrogant, self-seeking young folks rushing in to the country's political arena?

As it is, our country is full of good-for-nothing law-makers. So many that our country has to depend on rally organisers to monitor and sometimes help drive out crooked and trouble-causing politicians. Why? Because there are so many more  bad guys in the political field than good ones.

ML Nattakorn Devakula has made enough enemies already as a newspaper columnist. His greatest achievement so far has been to insult Senator Rosana Tositrakul, despite the lady's huge victory in the Senate election in Bangkok. He was also just short of calling Bangkok voters stupid for having voted her in.

This person reminds us of Jakrapob Penkair, who came to prominence by attacking Privy Council Chairman Prem Tinsulanonda, despite the fact that the elder statesman has been serving the country and the King long before Jakkrapob was even born.

As for Nattakorn, most sickening about him was when he said he intends to pull out if well-known figures like Purachai Piumsombun, Somkid Jatusripitak or Banthoon Lamsam join the next gubernatorial election. I see this not as a wise decision, but a cowardly and opportunistic one.

Nattakorn should study John F Kennedy's biography and his award-winning book "Profiles in Courage" before deciding to take part in politics - and see what it takes to become a respected international politician.

Protesters are being

led down a rocky road

Much as I recoil from this government, I loathe this anarchy even more, particularly when it seems like the mass is being led by the nose - possibly to the slaughter - for the benefit of just a handful who could not care less what should happen to them.

Those who profess to have allied themselves to the fight for democracy should go home and think more about their role a little more carefully and review the real reason behind their fight.

Think first before

opening your mouth

Re: "Thailand: a banana republic in all but name", Letters, June 10.

Jack Stein comments that Thailand is  "rotten to the core". I wonder out loud where Jack comes from. Is he from America, where everybody is grossly overweight, loud and unattractive? Or perhaps the UK, where it's impossible to get a smile from the dour, gap-toothed, chinless Brits? Or maybe Australia, where the kangaroos know more about class and culture than the inhabitants?

Did you enjoy the crass generalisations of that last paragraph?  Next time you  damn a nation of 60 million because of prejudices, glance in the mirror first. There you might find some real dysfunctionality.
