The country general manager of IBM Thailand Thanwa Laohasiriwong said he has been collecting Bt10 banknotes as souvenirs for guests coming to the wedding party of his daughter who is currently in high school.

Thanwa was so impressed that his father collected one baht banknotes and presented them to the guests at his (Thanwa's) wedding. Since then, the IBM head has become a collector of old banknotes. "Their value is higher than the face value," Thanwa said.

The Export-Import Bank (Exim) of Thailand appointed Surapon Satimanont as new senior vice president to oversee client credit-information processing, credit approval and collateral operations, debt collection and restructuring, contract preparation and other legal affairs, effective from the beginning of this month.

Nakornthai Strip Mill (NSM)'s new directors are Somsak Leesawadtrakul, Khunying Patama Leesawadtrakul, Niput Pukkanasut, Niputh Jitprasonk, and Chanathip Trivuth. From tomorrow, NSM will be renamed G J Steel. These changes came after G Steel, led by Somsak, acquired a majority stake in NSM.

Varopakorn chief dies

The chairman of Varopakorn, Chatchawarn Chaixanien, passed away on June 2. The religious ceremony was held last week.

Innomax 2008

The National Innovation Agency will hold the INNOMAX 2008 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from June 19 to 22. Besides exhibiting innovative products for business matching and consumer purchases, the event will have seminars whose speakers include Vikrom Kromadit, executive chairman of Amata; Prasert Bunsumpun, chief executive of PTT; and Thana Thienachariya, chief commercial officer of DTAC.

Dr John Yangpichit has been appointed executive director of Tongkah Harbour in place of Somsak Ruamkid who resigned on June 2.

innovation expert returns

Steve Shapiro, an expert in innovation management and best-selling author of "24/7 Innovation" will be returning to Bangkok after nearly a decade, says AIM Inlines, the organiser of the event to be held on July 10 at the Radisson Bangkok. The event will have lectures, case studies and workshops to teach ways to develop creative abilities and pass them on to the rest of the organisation, it said.
