NCCC to launch graft probe in spite of Jakrapob's resignation

The National Counter Corruption Commission on Thursday decided to launch a graft probe against outgoing PM's Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair even though he has resigned, NCCC member Klanarong Chantik said.

Jakrapob's departure has foiled the impeachment motion but the NCCC will continue to look into alleged graft violations, Klanarong said in reference to the concession deal awarded by the state-run NBT Channel.

If the NCCC found cause to suspect foul play, Jakrapob might be banned from holding office for five years on top of facing criminal prosecution.

Government Spokesman Wichianchot Sukchotrat said on Thursday that Jakrapob's resignation will take effect on Monday.

The prime minister has assigned PM's Office Minister Choosak Sirinin to supervise the job in the caretaker capacity pending the appointment of Jakrapob's successor.
