"He (Thaksin) praised our country's political and economic condition. He said Indonesia has been able to develop its economy because it has succeeded in maintaining political stability," presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said after the meeting.
Dino said Thaksin also appreciated Yudhoyono's support for the development of democracy in Thailand.
Yudhoyono and Thaksin also discussed energy and food resilience, an issue both countries were dealing with, he said.
Thaksin was visiting Indonesia to attend the Indonesian Regional Investment Forum, a two-day exhibition of investment projects for various business sectors held in Jakarta from Monday.
"He expressed his interest in establishing an economic partnership with Indonesia and in investing here, especially in the seaport industry, but no details were discussed," Dino said.
Yudhoyono welcomed the former prime minister's interest and the two agreed to maintain a good relationship in the future, he added.
