Secretary General to the House of Representatives Pitoon Pumhiran said Thursday he had not been contacted by MPs from the Northeast and the proposal for charter amendment can still continue.
At the moment, 131 MPs and senators propose the motion of charter amendment. Three MPs who had withdrawn their names included Pracharaj's Phrae MP Sorawong Thienthong, Puea Pandin's Chiang Mai MP Narapol Tantimontri and Lampang senator Peera Manathat, he said.
Khon Kaen MP Somsak Kiatsuranont said his group of eight MPs will meet on Friday to decide whether to withdraw their names from the motion and if they do, the motion is expected to be dropped.
A parliamentary source, who asked not to be named, said although some MPs and senators had withdrawn their names, People Power Party's MPs from the northeast, who are close to former Thai Rak Thai executive Newin Chidchob, would definitely not withdraw. It is expected they would keep their names so that when the result of the referendum is known, they can continue the amendment process without starting over again.
