Cabinet approves rise in Blue Line budget

The Cabinet yesterday approved a 5.27-per-cent increase in the Blue Line electric-rail budget, from Bt54.04 billion to Bt56.89 billion.

Its civil-engineering work was raised from Bt41.38 billion to Bt48.82 billion, but the land-expropriation budget was reduced from Bt10.16 billion to Bt5.9 billion. The construction-consultant and -management budget was also reduced, from Bt2.49 billion to Bt2.17 billion.

The Blue Line will run from Bang Sue to Tha Phra and from Hualamphong to Bang Khae. Funds will be borrowed from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and are expected before December, in order to start the project next year.

Thai to implement E-ticketing worldwide

Starting next Sunday, passengers travelling on all Thai Airways International (THAI) flights will be issued an electronic ticket, or e-ticket, which replaces the current standard paper ticket.

Unlike the old paper tickets, e-tickets have no paper coupons, and passengers are issued with only a passenger-itinerary printout for reference. THAI will still accept paper tickets that were issued before June 1.

PTT raises pump prices for petrol and diesel

PTT today will raise its pump prices 50 satang a litre for petrol and 70 satang for diesel, following other retailers' moves.

PTT's diesel price will be Bt38.34 a litre, still cheaper than Bt39.04 quoted by other retailers. The 95-octane petrol price will be Bt40.09 a litre.

Chief operating officer Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith attributed the increase to prices of US$138.39 (Bt4,400) per barrel for refined petrol and $171.58 for diesel, against yesterday's Dubai crude-oil price of $126.26. Violence in Nigeria damaged a pipeline, while China needs more oil after the May 12 earthquake.
