'The Nation' launch party

As part of a two-pronged strategy to build the widest English-language media audience in Thailand, The Nation this week will position itself as the country's highest- circulation business daily, with a strong focus on economic and national affairs.

A grand-launch party will be held tomorrow evening at the Four Season Hotel for distinguished guests, including leading local and foreign business figures.

It will also be attended by 60 guest columnists from the business community who will strengthen the paper's comprehensive news coverage.

The Nation intends to boost its core business-news readership, considered a sophisticated market with high purchasing power.

The recently launched Daily Xpress freesheet has meanwhile established itself as a mass-circulation English-language daily.

Nation president Pana Janviroj said responses to its new formats had been very positive.

The Daily Xpress has gained a market of younger readers.

"The two media outlets are a perfect mix in terms of readership and advertising opportunities," said Pana.

Nation editor Thanong Khanthong is confident the emphasis on business and politics will mark a new chapter for the prize-winning publication and sets it apart from rivals.

"Our aim is if you are a business leader, The Nation should be your first choice when it comes to business news," he said.
