Retaining call-centre staff

Few industries can match call centres in staff turnover. Deirdre Hutchinson, managing director of TalkTime Asia, said the annual turnover rate of call-centre staff in Bangkok was as high as 25 per cent - meaning one in every four employees leave the call centres within a year of joining. Some reasons are that call-centre jobs are not seen as cool and professional jobs; have unsocial working hours and the need to endure complaints.

The Bangkok-based call-centre consultancy and training company, thus, has come up with motivational, reward-based and recognition schemes to help clients retain their staff. One is a training programme that awards "green", "blue" and "black" belts if trainees pass two, four and six courses, respectively.
