Public bus fares hiked by Bt1.50

The Central Land Transport Committee yesterday approved a Bt1.50 hike in public bus fares at a time when diesel is hitting a new record high at Bt36.44 per litre in some petrol stations.

The new bus fares will take effect on May 25. Non-airconditioned buses operated by Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will collect Bt8.50 while those by private operators will collect Bt10. Inter-province bus fares will be raised 3 satang per kilometre.

Esso (Thailand) and Shell today led all oil retailers to raise their diesel prices by 70 satang per litre, lifting the retail price to Bt36.44. Retailers also jacked up petrol prices, to bring octane-95 petrol price to the same level at Bt39.09 per litre. Diesel is the cheapest at PTT stations, costing 30 satang per litre lower.

Energy Minister Poonpirom Liptapanlop said PTT would supply high-sulphur diesel, which is Bt2 per litre cheaper than normal diesel,  to help fishermen.
