Investment expert to share insights

Singapore-based Dr Mark Mobius of Franklin Templeton Investments, widely regarded as one of the most successful fund managers in the world and responsible for close to US$50 billion (Bt1.6 trillion) worth of investments, will be sharing his unique insights and investment strategies at a conference in Bangkok.



Dr Mobius will join Japanese and Thai investors and analysts. The event in the afternoon of May 24 at Thai Summit Tower on Petchburi Road is organised by Bangkokstation Network in association with StockWave Online and BusinessWeek Thailand. KTB Leasing opens office in Ubon

KTB Leasing is opening a regional office in Ubon Ratchathani in June in its effort to become a convenience banking venue. Wholly-owned by Krung Thai Bank, the leasing company has regional offices in Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai and Surat Thani.

THAI shortlisted as best Asian airline

Thai Airways International has been shortlisted for the Asia Pacific-based airlines awards competition by OAG (Official Airline Guide), the world's authority on flight information.

Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways have been nominated as the best airline based in Asia while nominees for best airline in Australasia and the Pacific region include Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Jetstar Airways, Qantas and Virgin Blue. Boeing is the Awards' headline sponsor.

The winners will be announced on June 4.

Traffic up at new Bangkok airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport saw 9.6 per cent more international and domestic passengers in the first quarter of the year when 11.3 million people passed through it, Airports of Thailand reported.

Domestic passenger traffic plunged 35.8 per cent to 2 million people, because 40 per cent of domestic flights were moved to Don Mueang Airport.

MPA managers meet in Pattaya

More than 50 people recently attended the Motion Picture Association (MPA) Country Managers' Meeting at Dusit Thani Pattaya.

The event is held annually and gathers all its managers in the Asia Pacific and their colleagues from the head office in Los Angeles to discuss the latest developments in the organisation.

The meeting was led by the Asia-Pacific head, Mike Ellis, who is also MPA president and managing director.
