"Ghost goal" referee Michel to take charge of Champions League final

London- Lubos Michel, the man who awarded the infamous "ghost goal" in the semi-final of the 2005 Champions League, will referee Wednesday's Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea.

UEFA confirmed on Monday that Slovakian Michel would be the man in the middle in Moscow, a choice that is unlikely to go down too well at Chelsea.

The London side were on the wrong end of a controversial decision in the semi-finals in 2005 when Michel ruled that a shot from Liverpool's Luis Garcia had crossed the line.

Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea manager at the time, described it as a "ghost goal" and refused to accept it was a legitimate goal.

Michel has refereed at the 2004 European Championships and at the World Cup in 2006.
