Manufacturers push for price hikes

Manufacturers of consumer goods are pressing the Commerce Ministry to allow them to increase their prices, following the Cabinet's recent approval of an increase in the retail price of sugar and continuing hikes in oil prices.

Syrup manufacturers - especially Hale's Blue Boy brand - have been affected by the increased sugar price. The company wants to increase its price from Bt340 for a 12-bottle pack to Bt380, to coincide with the cost of sugar rising Bt5 a kilogram, a source said. Soybean-oil manufacturers are also seeking price increases.

E-customs

Customs payments can now be made electronically through eight commercial banks, making the processes of exporting and importing easier and reducing costs. The service is provided by e-logistics company Netbay and the Customs Department.

Importers and exporters are able to use the service via Krung Thai Bank, BankThai, Citibank, Sumitomo Bank, Kasikornbank, Bangkok Bank, Bank of Ayudhya and Deutsche Bank. Siam Commercial Bank will soon join the system.
