Samak quits TV cooking programmes

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej complained yesterday that he might lose his post because of the cooking programme "Chim Pai Bon Pai" ("Savouring and Grumbling").

During his weekly television show "Talk Samak Style", he said a complaint had been filed with the Election Commission accusing him of violating the Constitution by being an employee.

He has suspended his two television programmes - "Chim Pai Bon Pai'' and "Yok Kayong Hok Mong Chao".

"Some people want to remove me from the post. They say I am an employee of the company [producing the programme] no matter whether I receive a salary or not. I receive just a travelling allowance. A lawyer said this was not being an employee,'' he said.

The EC has instructed a panel to scrutinise the matter within 15 days.
