Diamond Tiles thrives

Diamond Roofing Tiles (DRT)'s net profit in the first quarter increased by 17.9 per cent from the same period last year - due to exports to neighbouring countries and increased purchasing power in the provinces.

Managing director Asanee Chantong said yesterday his company earned a first quarter net profit of Bt127.26 million, compared with Bt107.93 million year on year. DRT generated revenue of Bt820.89 million, an increase of 24.6 per cent from Bt658.71 million in the same period of 2007.

He said the good performance came from expanding exports to overseas Markets - particularly to Cambodia, Burma, Laos and China - which have high demand for construction materials. The export market soared  82 per cent in the first quarter. The company's main customers are upcountry where farmers are enjoying higher purchasing power from an increase in agricultural prices.

"The provincial market is likely to continue performing well," he said.

Satid Sudbuntad, deputy managing director for sales and marketing, added that DRT also succeeded in selling new products produced with green technology.

He said that the company plans to enlarge its export markets to India, South Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines, and will join trade exhibitions in China this month and in Vietnam in June.

The company plans to increase its property project market by 50 per cent, accounting for 8 per cent of total revenue this year.
