Vote for House speaker

MPs will vote today for their new speaker to replace Yongyuth Tiyapairat, who resigned last month.

Executives of the ruling People Power Party last week voted unanimously to nominate senior MP and government chief whip Chai Chidchob.

However, some party MPs showed disagreement with the decision. In today's House vote, those MPs might support another candidate.

Also today, the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions will summons Yongyuth to testify in the election fraud case against him and his sister.

Yongyuth plans to defend himself personally in court.
