Bochum ordered to close fan section after attack on steward

Frankfurt (dpa) - The German football federation (DFB) Thursday ordered VfL Bochum to close a section of its ground to its fans ahead of the club's last home match of the season.

It follows violence at the team's away match at Arminia Bielefeld last Saturday in which a steward was badly injured.

The DFB sports panel ruled that Bochum must close the East Stand, in which home fans are allowed to stand on terracing, for the last match of the season on May 17.

Fans who have already bought tickets will be placed in seating under tightened security controls.

It has already been agreed by the club to suspend further ticket sales for the match. In addition the club has agreed to pay 30,000 euros (46,000 dollars) to the injured steward in lieu of a fine.

Bielefeld have been fined 20,000 euros for failing to provide sufficient security for the match.

In Saturday's incident the 34-year-old steward suffered a fractured skull and jaw after he was attacked in a Bochum fan section of the ground.
