Samak told reporters that the resignation took an immediate effect.

Sutha submitted his resignation to Prime Minster Samak Sundaravej Thursday morning, a source close to him said.

But Sutha left it to the prime minister to decide when his resignation would take effect.

Sutha was accused of lacking qualifications because he had allegedly failed to complete university-level education.

He was also accused of having failed to report assets of his out-of-wedlock son.
