House to deal with charter changes: coalition leaders

Coalition leaders agreed last night that the constitution amendment would be the matter for Parliament while the government would focus on its administrative work.

They agreed at their dinner meeting that the government would leave it up to Parliament to debate and decide on constitutional changes, Suwit Khunkitti, leader from the coalition Puea Pandin Party, said when leaving the meeting. He said the administion would focus on its work of solving national problems.

Their dinner meeting focused mainly on general matters about the government, and not the charter changes as had been expected earlier, Chart Thai Party leader Banharn Silpa-archa told reporters after the meet.

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, in his capacity as the People Power Party leader, declined to give an interview to reporters. He walked straight to his car.

Leaders and key figures from all the six coalition parties joined the dinner meeting at the Paisano (which means "countryman") Italian restaurant, in the Chit Lom area. The coalition leaders began their meet shortly before 8 pm and left the scene two hours later.
