India's Jet launches Bangkok-Mumbai service

India-based carrier Jet Airways yesterday launched its inaugural Bangkok-Mumbai daily service to serve the booming economic and tourism links between the two countries.

Regional vice president for Souteast Asia Gerry Oh said the airline's premium service and extensive domestic network in India ensured the new daily flights would be attractive to both business and leisure travellers flying between India and Thailand. "India is one of Asia's largest and fastest growing economies and we are already seeing strong business travel between Thailand and India," he said.

"More than 600,000 travellers from India are expected to visit Thailand in 2008. This represents a 20 per cent increase over 2007. Many are attracted by Thailand 's mix of great shopping and leisure attractions," he added.

Thai travellers also see India as an increasingly exciting destination, offering a diversity of experiences: from culture to food, from picturesque mountains to tropical beaches.

Jet Airways has been operating in Thailand since early 2007 and currently operates a total of 14 flights a week with daily Bangkok-Delhi and Bangkok-Kolkata services. The launch of daily Bangkok to Mumbai flights will increase the total to 21 flights a week.

The daily Bangkok-Mumbai flights also offer travellers the added bonus of connecting easily with Jet Airways' Mumbai-London service.

The airline's international network has been expanding at a rapid rate. Since early this year, Jet Airways has launched flights between Hong Kong-Mumbai, Abu Dhabi-Delhi, and Abu Dhabi-Mumbai. It will start a Delhi-Hong Kong route soon and in July, the airline will launch its Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco service and be the first Indian airline to offer daily flights between Mumbai and Shanghai.
