Govt to buy 20,000 tonnes of foreign chemical fertiliser

The Cabinet yesterday approved the Agricultural Ministry's proposal to import 20,000 tonnes of low-cost chemical fertiliser in order to help farmers deal with the soaring price of local fertiliser.

The move follows the Cabinet's approval in principle on April 8 to seek low-cost fertiliser for farmers.

The domestic price has surged from Bt12,700-Bt14,000 per tonne last year to Bt14,000-Bt20,000 at present.

The ministry was given a budget of Bt304.5 million to procure the foreign supplies.
