Banharn says charter rewrite should hinge on the parliamentary deliberation

Chart Thai Party leader Banharn Silapaarcha on Tuesday voiced support for charter rewrite although he had some reservations about some proposed amendments.

"I repeat the 2007 Constitution must be amended although I am willing to heed advice on how best to proceed on the matter," he said.

Banharn said the pros and cons of proposed changes should be debate in Parliament. He ruled out a Democrat proposal to conduct a thorough review of the charter before amending it, saying he deemed it unnecessary.

He predicted that Wednes's meeting of the coalition partners would outline the broad framework for rewriting but details might left for subsequent talks.

The essential point was that every draft amendment should be vetted and revised during the deliberation, he said.
