Activemedia to set up antivirus lab

Activemedia (Thailand) will collaborate with an educational institution to set up an antivirus technology laboratory to monitor and provide information to help computer users protect their systems.

The company expects to generate revenues of Bt60 million this year. Activemedia chief executive Varit Onvong said the company is negotiating with educational institutions to develop the antivirus laboratory.

The company aims to become an antivirus information centre and monitor viruses that threaten computers so it can alert computer users to prevent infections. The company did not reveal the name of the institution.

"We want to create awareness among computer users and inculcate antivirus-software skills among students in the institution so that they can gain knowledge, monitor virus-infected computers and protect computer systems from virus attacks," Varit said.

He said the company also expected to start providing NOD Antivirus programs for the home and enterprise market through retail channels and would set up alliances with 500 dealers nationwide.

Moreover, the company is also reorganising itself to set up a call centre which will help in increasing the productivity of its business. It has also set aside a budget for human-resource development as well as research and development with a view to improve the efficiency of its services.

"The antivirus software market is highly competitive and there are at least 10 companies operating in the market. Therefore, we must provide products and services that inspire confidence among our customers," Varit said.

The antivirus software market in Thailand is worth Bt1 billion a year, he said.

The company expects to generate a revenue of Bt60 million by the end of the year, 80 per cent coming from the enterprise market and the rest from the home market.
