NCCC spokesman Klanarong Chanthik, an AEC member, said the agencies would discuss how to transfer cases after the AEC's term expires at the end of June.

"The NCCC will prepare officials to handle the cases to be transferred from the AEC," Klanarong said.

Three cases were now being considered by the courts. They are the Ratchadaphisek land purchase case against former prime minister Thaksin Shinwatra and his wife, the tax evasion case against Banaphot Damapong and the special lottery case.

If the courts failed to make rulings before the end of the AEC's term, the NCCC would take them over.

Klanarong said the agencies would also discuss the fate of cases left in limbo by public prosecutors declining to arraign the suspects.

He said some cases which might not be wrapped up would also be sent to NCCC. Klanarong said the AEC would try to wrap up all investigations during the two remaining months.

"We have finished about 70 to 80 per cent of investigations into the remaining cases and we expect that most will be wrapped up before the end of the term," he said.

After the joint meeting with the NCCC, the AEC will resume its consideration of the report on the investigation into alleged corruption

in the purchase of the CTX 9000 bomb scanners for Suvarnabhumi Airport.
