Second deputy speaker Tassana Boonthong, who chaired yesterday's Senate meeting, told the participants that the speaker and the first deputy speaker were preoccupied with some urgent business and could not attend.

Two motions have been filed for a senatorial debate to discuss setting up the committee.

However, there was reportedly a lobbying attempt for the debate to be put off until after the ruling People Power Party filed its charter amendment motion with the Parliament.

Earlier in the day, the upper House met to acknowledge the Supreme Administrative Court's nominations of the last two judges for the nine-judge Constitution Court. It is the Senate speaker's responsibility to seek royal endorsement for the nine nominations.

Four nominations were earlier made by the Senate and three others from the Supreme Court.

The Senate yesterday also voted to select two new members for the Judicial Commission to replace those who completed their term. Chamnong Chalermchat and Adirek Jamrasritthirong were selected with 96 and 78 votes respectively.
