Pienaar puts pen to paper for Everton

Liverpool, England (dpa) - South African international Steven Pienaar has signed a three-year contract with Everton the English Premiership club announced on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old, who has been on loan at Everton from German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, had earlier been linked to several other clubs including Arsenal and Valencia.

Pienaar, who previously played for Ajax Amsterdam and Ajax Cape Town, joined Everton for two million pounds (3.97 million dollars).

Everton manager David Moyes had earlier said that he was confident that Everton and Dortmund would reach an agreement, even though Pienaar had said he was worried a permanent move would not materialize.

"Steven is one of the reasons our football has improved."
