Hleb to miss rest of season after receiving three-match suspension
London (dpa) - The English Football Association said Wednesday that Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb had been handed a three-match suspension after admitting a charge of violent conduct.
Television footage showed Hleb apparently raising his hand to Reading defender Graeme Murty in an incident that the referee did not see and therefore did not penalize.
Arsenal won the match on Saturday 2-0 to retain a theoretical chance to win the Premiership.
The FA said in a statement that Hleb had admitted a charge of violent conduct.
"Hleb was charged for his involvement in an incident with Reading defender Graeme Murty during the second half of the match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 19 April.
"The incident was not seen by referee Peter Walton. Having now watched video footage of the incident, Walton has informed The FA that, had he seen it at the time, he would have shown Hleb a red card for violent conduct."
The 26-year-old Belarusian international will miss Arsenal's three remaining league games against Derby, Everton and Sunderland.
