Fertiliser-price woes

Thai Central Chemical, the country's leading chemical fertiliser-maker, expects a drop in second-quarter earnings as a big jump in fertiliser prices could affect sales.

Executive vice president Phaiboon Ratanapornchai said prices will rise sharply because of higher costs for raw materials and imported fertilisers.

"Farmers will stop purchasing fertilisers and wait for the government to assist them," he said. Sales have fallen since March.
