Growing spa resorts to PR

Thai resort company Sala Resort & Spa has signed up with PR firm Grebstad Hicks Communication (GHC).

Published on April 19, 2008

GHC is a public relations agency specialising in the hospitality industry. Sala Resort & Spa owns two developments, in Samui and Phuket.

Sala Samui has become one of the island's most successful resorts, and Sala Phuket is tucked away on Maikhao beach with pool villas.

"We have opened our second resort, and with further developments in the pipeline, we feel the time is right to work with a professional PR

agency ." says Sala vice-president Brian Moodie.

Baggage-handling fee introduced

AirAsia will charge for all checked baggage on flights booked from Monday onwards across its network.

Earlier the cost of checked baggage was included in every fare.

Now, each guest will pay only for the bags they travel with, and passengers travelling with hand luggage only (one piece weighing a maximum of seven kilograms) will not be charged.

From Monday, checked bags will be charged on a per-item basis up to the maximum permitted weight of 15 kilograms. Fees are Bt30 (pre-booked) and Bt50 (airport counter) per bag.

Where greens are always greener

Laguna Phuket Golf Club was recently awarded IGOLF Laureate Course Status for its environmental awareness and social commitment.

The award is given by the International Golf and Life Foundation to selected courses around the world that show a dedication to environmental issues as well as social responsibility.

Transformed from a ruined, abandoned tin mine into a lush, tropical haven, the Laguna Phuket Golf Club is home to a vast variety of wildlife including kingfisher birds, fishing eagles and white egrets. The golf course also provides more than 3,500 jobs to the local population.

Academy for hospitality staff

After a successful first year, the Centara Academy has launched its second hospitality training class.

The hospitality training centre was established by Centara Hotels and Resorts with the cooperation of the Ministry of Labour and Rangsit University. The candidates learn skills for the kitchen, house keeping and restaurant. Once the course is completed, Centara will offer them a job at one of its properties.

The first 37 trainees enrolled last year and are scheduled to graduate in this month.

The second class will start on May 20. For more information, call (02) 769 1234 ext 6642.
