Surayud vows to exit politics, serving the monarchy

Former prime minister Surayud Chulanont on Thursday expressed his gratitude for the royal command on his appointment for the position of privy councillor and vowed to exit politics for good in order to serve the monarchy.



"There will be others to serve as future prime ministers, " he said, ruling out his return to politics in case a crisis.

He said he never had any political ambition and that he had no intent to serve as the interim prime minister following the 2006 coup.
