Consumer confidence continues improving

Consumer confidence surged in March, due to the economic stimulus package as well as growing exports.

The confidence index on economic outlook moved up from 72.6 points in February to 73.8, according to University of Thai Chamber of Commerce's survey. Confidence on future income also rose from 93.2 to 94.6, while confidence in job opportunity was up from 72.7 to 73.5.

The university's director Thanavath Phonvichai said the confidence index has been rising for five consecutive months, signalling the recovery in confidence. However, as the index remains lower than 100, it shows that consumption has not yet fully recovered.

The survey showed that negative factors to the confidence are the high oil prices, sub-prime crisis and the strong baht.
