Tighter control on rice stocks

The Commerce Ministry has tightened rice inventory check, particularly in the Central provinces to ensure sufficient supply and no hoarding.

Internal Trade Department Director-General Yanyong Phuangrach said on Wednesday during the unannounced visit to Thai Fa (2551) Co Ltd's warehouse in Samut Prakan that the inventory check would be carried out continually even during the Songkran holidays.

Yanyong himself would lead the investigation team to several provinces in the Central part including Phichit, Chainat and Sukhothai, where thefts are regularly reported. He noted that though about 13,000 tonnes have been stolen from the government warehouses so far, there must be no more theft.
