Frederic Spagnou, vice president for airline business, yesterday said the company's new system would be transformed from a pure distribution channel into differentiating solutions that would allow customers to achieve more sales and provide more choice for efficiency.
"It was a major evolution of distribution to help airlines to act like true retailers," Spagnou said.
Developed in collaboration with major carriers around the globe, the system will be rolled out in phases over the next two years.
The system will support airlines in performing merchandising activities through travel agents. The platform will feature fares packaging and displays of product characteristics.
Peter Kelly, general manager of distribution for Qantas, said the airline was designing packaging and branding for new direct online channels, providing passengers with more choice and transparency.
Bill Brindle, director of distribution for UK-based Hogg Robinson, said the system ensured that travel consultants could deliver better service to clients. It offers the ability to easily compare products and highlight additional services.
Amadeus has also created such solutions for airlines as standalone products, e-ticketing servers and fare quotes.
Amadeus has enabled e-ticketing in 146 markets and for 247 airlines.
