More benefits to pensioners

The Finance Ministry is seeking the Cabinet's approval to double the pensioners' allowance ceiling to Bt400,000, the move which would require the reimbursement of Bt6.9 billion of Treasury reserves.

Deputy Finance Minister Ranongrak Suwanchawee said on Friday that to help the pensioners live more comfortably with higher cost of living, the Comptroller General's Office is supporting to change the maximum allowances for pensioners aged 65 or more.

At present, the allowances are 10 times of their monthly pensions or maximum Bt200,000. The change would raise the allowances to 15 times of monthly pensions or maximum Bt400,000.
