Fertiliser distributors asked for more price cut

Agriculture Minister Somsak Prissanananthakul has persuaded major fertiliser distributors to lower their prices to help farmers, at a meeting on Thursday.

Results of the meeting would be used in the future discussion with Commerce and Finance ministries, prior to the presentation to the Cabinet next Tuesday.

Somsak said that fertiliser prices could be slashed more than Bt1,000 per tonne.

There are reports that fertiliser prices has appreciated in line with commodity prices. To help farmers, Commerce Ministry on Wednesday urged distributors to sell 130,000 tonnes of fertilisers to farmers at a discount of Bt200-Bt1,000 per tonne. The ministry would distribute the item to farmers within April 18.
