Charlie the new Thai Beverage angel

Thai Beverage has embraced beverage industry legend Charlie Jitcharoongphorn into its empire.

Published on April 3, 2008

Charlie is former marketing director for beverage products at Pepsi-Cola (Thai) Trading, who during his 21-year service kept the brand in the leading position in the local cola market. The management and staff of Pepsi-Cola and Serm Suk yesterday hosted a farewell party for him.

In his new capacity as vice president for marketing of the country's largest beverage company, Charlie, 58, will take full marketing responsibility for Chang Beer and other beverages within the group, including Oishi and Carabao Dang.

A Thai Beverage source said Charlie had strong experience in the highly competitive soft-drink industry for more than 20 years. He will strengthen all marketing functions at Thai Beverage, from Chang Beer to other beverages.

Prangnee Chaipidej, advertising and PR manager at Serm Suk, the local Pepsi bottler, has worked with Charlie for 20 years. He said Charlie had scored great achievements in his career and played a vital role in making Pepsi the leader in the Thai beverage market. Pepsi currently has a 62-per-cent share of the cola-drink market.

"Charlie is a great team leader who had an outstanding role in conducting and synchronising all functions - media advertising, PR and marketing - to leverage marketing campaigns effectively in full scale and high profile," said Prangnee.

Separately, Pepsi-Cola (Thai) Trading announced the appointment of Eric Kitjatanapan as beverage commercial director, effective this month. This is a new position that has been created as the result of a corporate realignment process that is focusing on increasing management efficiency.
