Auto training centre pressed ahead

Thailand Automotive Institute is teaming up with American automaker Ford to set up the auto training centre, aiming to produce 3,000 engineers, technician chiefs and technicians per annum.

While the centre will initially be supported by the institute and Auto Alliance - the manufacturer of Ford vehicles in Thailand, the isntitute plans to draw more cooperation from industrial estate developers.

The institute's director Wallop Piasiri said the Industry Ministry is committed to allocate Bt290 million for the project.

"This will be the pilot project in producing personnel for auto assembling plants and auto parts manufacturing plants," Wallop said.

Thailand plans to become Detroit of Asia. Earlier, auto makers have complained that against the aggressive plans, Thailand would largely suffer from personnel shortage when more plants are operating in Thailand.
