Unilever production costs to fall

Unilever Thai Holdings plans to reduce accumulated production costs significantly, to no more than Bt1 billion.

Published on April 1, 2008

Its plan to achieve this goal depends on the Total Maintenance Productive (TMP) programme. The company has applied the system, which was developed by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance, since 2006.

TMP is a maintenance programme involving the efficient operation of plants and equipment. Its goal is to minimise loss while increasing productivity.

The programme seeks to maximise output from workers, use raw materials efficiently, maintain smooth processing and properly operate machinery and equipment.

Unilever is focusing on changing the mindset of staff, from high-ranking executives to the operational level. Applying the system has enabled the company to reduce operation costs by Bt700 million.

Meanwhile, the firm has received 95-per-cent fewer complaints from customers. Its delivery of goods, including to Tesco Lotus and Carrefour, has also fully compiled with customers' requirements, which includes a punctuality rate of 93.8 per cent, said vice president Viwat Krisdhasima.
