PM exposes coup plot against his government

Samak said the note was a classified document inserted into a pile of reports sent to him as the agendas for the Tuesday's Cabinet meeting.

"I believe certain individuals are still active because they think they can still stage a coup and I will not retaliate because I don't think it is possible to overthrow the government," he said.

He said he did not suspect that his People Power Party was involved in sounding the alarm on the coup.

He refused to speculte who might be behind the plot against his government although he anticipated more attempts to discredit his ministers, including PM's Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair.

In regard to the book on the 2006 coup by author and Bangkok Post reporter Wasana Nanuam, he said he found it as "a kind of book which the actual writer is not the author".

He said the book caused many people to feel awkward even though he understood Army chief General Anupong Paochinda who was identified in the book as helping coup leader General Sonthi Boonyaratglin to plot the overthrow of the Thaksin Shinawatra government.

He repeated his stand that the coup was no longer feasible and that coup plotters should realise the new reaility.

He said he had no comments on the antigovernment meeting organised by the People's Alliance for Democracy and that the government would ensure security and peace for the meeting at Thammasat University Auditorium.
